HOW YOUR BEATNIK SHOES ARE MADE

Over 100 different operations are performed in the manufacturing process of your shoes.

The first and most important step is the creation of the form, which is basically a replica of the human foot hand carved in wood or molded in plastic. This determines the outline of tonnage and the distribution of the owner´s weight on the shoe, both crucial factors for comfort.

A different mold for each shoe style and for each new model is needed. Making a perfect mold requires many years of experience.

After making about 35 measurements from a track that draws the distribution of body weight, the artisan observed among other details, the symmetry of the fingers, calibrate the dimensions of the instep and the ball of the foot metatarsal to calculate the height of the finger and the contour of the instep.

This also determines how the foot moves in the shoe.

The challenge is to coordinate all these measures without compromising all the architectural beauty of the shoe design.

Another important process is to establish the proper height for the shank of the shoe: if it is too high, it will rub the tendons, if it is too low, it will not hold the foot properly.

Another Key part is the measure of the curve of tonnage, the area that includes the eminence and the instep, since this is where the whole weight of the body lies when the shoe is moving

Once all these processes are finished and using the mold as a guide, the artisan who creates the template cuts the top and lining with beveled edges to ensure a good fit and sews all the pieces.

He then puts the toe, adds reinforcement for the back and soaks the leather.

The craftsman carefully places the upper area onto the form, before nailing it tightly in place.

The top is placed during the last two weeks before assembling the base. Finally, the artisans make the welt, heel polish and place the sole core backing.

When they have applied the wax to give it a shine, some aesthetic touches are added, and finally the shoe is ready to be delivered.

MATERIALS
LEATHER

For our hardest and erosion contact areas we use calf leather, very appreciated by experts because of its unquestionably quality.

Resistant but flexible, calf leather is used for the finest handcraft pieces.

Structure of this leather is obtained by embossing, creating a thin soft and resistant layer on the outside with a great visual attractiveness.

Strong at the same time soft, this leather is appreciated by master craftsmen.

Most of the pieces combine embossed leather on the outside and a hand-polished care to generate an harmonious effect of great attractiveness.

The pieces that compose each of the accessories fit together perfectly. Every stitch counts and all of them must be perfect.

The pieces overlap and they are stitched by machine. To join accessories we use an especially resistant thread, using detailed and precise craft work.

Every little mistake implies removing the piece because it would be unfortunately visible. The highest precision and ability is required.

One of the characteristics of this kind of leather is that is does not attack metal components. This kind of leather and technique is not used by every tanner. Natural texture of this raw material is always respected.

SOLE

Made of natural leather with a hardening and anti-humidity treatment. Stitched and glued to the bottom of the shoe for the best endurance and comfort.

The logo of the collection is incorporated on the inside of the sole using fire proof paint, free of dyes and chemicals.

The logo on the outside of the sole is a blow that incorporates number and logo using dry heat.

Color comes from antitoxic vegetal paint.

In the case of colored ornaments on the sole, an artisan color polymer is used which is neutral and inert, without any allergic or chemical risk.

WOOD

The type of wood used is oak treated with resin and a special varnish, along with a waterproof treatment that ensures maximum duration and resistance both to humidity as well as friction and the weight of the person (in case of turns, jumps or hard blows).

CORDS

Skin carved, treated and cured at the end with a comb polymer. Are treated with an anti-moisture treatment to prevent discoloration by rain, or friction

We conducted tests of resistance to pressure and stress

The dyes to get the color, are of mixed origin and use a special technique to preserve as much as possible the original brightness

METAL DETAILS

Metal fixtures, eyelets, details, bits or curbs, are made of ionized stainless steel to prevent scratches, dirt and facilitate cleaning in case of any accidental or maintenance stain.

Hardened stainless steel is needed to resist attacks from moisture and on the other to resist or ulcerations caused by the pressure of the cord to any deformities or to any incident or excessive pressure.

TASSEL AND ACCESSORIES

In the same material from which the parts are working calfskin, tassels, trims and appliques are made, so that aging is all in one piece and all shades d are retained leather, at different stages of use.

Furthermore grain leather traces are eliminated or neutralized so that can not be seen as imperfections or changes,  and also with the main parts of the shoe.
