HOW YOUR BEATNIKS ARE MADE?

After making approximately 35 measurements from a footprint that draws the distribution of body weight, the artisan observes, among other details, the symmetry of the fingers, calibrates the dimensions of the instep and the metatarsal eminence of the foot, to perfectly calculate the height of the toe. fat and the contour of the instep. It also determines how the foot will move within the shoe. The challenge is to coordinate all these measures without compromising all the architectural beauty of the shoe design.
More than 100 different operations are carried out in the manufacturing process of our shoes. The first and most important step is the creation of the last, which is basically a replica of the human foot carved by hand in wood or modeled in plastic. Determine the contour of the arch and how the person’s weight will be distributed over the shoe, both crucial factors for your comfort. A different last is needed for each style of shoe, for each new model. The manufacture of a perfect last requires many years of experience.
Another important process is to establish the proper height for the upper of the shoe: if it is too high, it will rub against the tendons, if it is too low, the shoe will not support the foot correctly. But the fundamental part for the shoe to fit perfectly is the measurement of the arch curve, the area that includes the ball of the foot and the instep of the foot, since it is here where the entire weight of the body falls when the shoe is on moving.
Once all these processes have been completed and using the last as a guide, the craftsman who makes the insole cuts the upper part and the lining, chamfers the edges to ensure a good fit and sews all the pieces. Next, make the toe box, add the buttress (a reinforcement for the rear part) and soak the leather so that it easily adapts to the lines of the last. The craftsman carefully places the upper on the last, tightening it before nailing it firmly into place. The upper part sits on the last for two weeks before the base is assembled. Finally, the craftsmen edging the welt, polishing the heel, polishing the sole and lining the base. When the wax has been applied to give it the shine and the last aesthetic touches have been given, the shoe will be ready to meet you.

MATERIALS

Lena female Oxford style shoes Two tone by Beatnik Shoes
For the parts in contact with areas of wear, we use young calfskin, highly appreciated by experts for its unquestionable quality. Strong yet supple, calfskin is used for the most refined pieces of craftsmanship. The structure of this leather is worked creating a thin, soft and resistant layer on the outside that highlights all its attractiveness. Strong as well as soft, this type of skin appreciates careful craftsmanship like few others. Most of the pieces combine leather with a matt finish, with other pieces with a careful shine that generates a harmonious effect of unique appeal.
The parts that make up each of the pieces fit together like a hinge and are sewn by hand with a particularly resistant thread. Every stitch counts and all of them must be perfect, without mistakes. The leather pieces are overlapped and machine stitched. To join the accessories we use a special thread endowed with the greatest resistance, in a meticulous and precise artisan work. To produce a perfect effect requires the greatest precision and skill. Every small mistake means removing the entire piece, as it would be unfortunately visible. One of the characteristics of this type of leather is that it does not attack metal appliqués. This type of leather and technique is not available to all tanners. The natural texture is always respected.

Natural leather with a hardening and anti-humidity treatment. Sewn and glued to the bottom of the shoe for greater durability and immobilization of the sole of the foot. The logo of the collection is incorporated by a single stroke of ecological fire retardant paint free of dyes and chemicals. The logo on the outer bottom is a blow that incorporates a number and logo using dry heat. The color is produced by antitoxic paint of vegetable origin. If you have chosen colored appliqués on the sole, it will be an artisan colored polymer, neutral and inert, with no allergic or chemical risk.

Leather carved, treated and hardened at the end with a polymer comb. They are treated with an anti-humidity treatment to avoid color changes due to rain or friction. We have carried out tests of resistance to pressure and tension. The dyes to achieve the color are of mixed origin and use a special technique to preserve the original brightness as much as possible.
The metallic appliqués, eyelets, details, bits or brocals, are made of ionized stainless steel to avoid scratches, dirt and facilitate cleaning in case of any accidental stain. Hardened stainless steel is necessary to resist moisture attacks, and on the other hand to resist ulcerations or deformities caused by the pressure of the cord or any other incident or excessive pressure

The tassels, ornaments and appliqués are made in the same material with which the pieces are made, calfskin, so that aging is all in one piece and all the nuances of the leather are preserved, in the different stages of use. On the other hand, the traces and grains of the leather are eliminated or neutralized so that no imperfection or change can be seen with the naked eye, as with the main parts of the shoe.

ABOUT US

The Beatnik Personality

The beatnik individual can be differentiated from others in terms of their personality traits. Beatnik individuals tend to be highly intuitive and more concerned with the abstract meaning of the outside world than their sensory perception. Beatniks also appear to be relatively free from prejudice and convention, not particularly interested in what their peers or anyone else thinks of them. They have little respect for established traditions and rules and for authority when it comes to their field of activity, preferring to trust their own judgments. They are generally more self-aware and more open to emotion and intuition than others. Among individuals with a beatnik personality, two different groups can be broadly distinguished: the artistic and the scientific. The fundamental characteristics are the same in both, but, in general, the artist is more likely to express his dissatisfaction both in his life and in his work, than the scientist. Among beatniks, genius is often confused and related to madness; we are in this category.

THE TEAM

The number of choices that we must make in the course of our existence does not stop increasing, each one now has the responsibility of his own biography.

ELENA

Since I was a teenager, I have always searched for my own style, one that reflects my personality at all times. I remember that I used to dress like Annie Hall and I didn’t care if she was fashionable or not, because for me she was what represented my style at the time, and it made me feel the most beautiful and different of all. I have always been very demanding in terms of the quality of the things around me. I prefer to invest in high quality products that last me and stay in perfect condition, instead of buying cheap products that do not stand the test of time. After finishing my studies, I worked in the world of telecommunications and, later, with image, film, music and fashion companies. There I learned first-hand the importance of professionalism and doing things right. I understood that taking care of the details is essential to project a quality image. After a few years dedicating myself to the study of the digital world, I discovered how incredible it is to bring people from all over the world closer to some of the best products that are made in my country. This is how our store was born, with the aim of sharing with you some quality products that, with a bit of luck, help you find your own style and become part of your life for a long time.

RAFA

To paraphrase George Best, “I have spent endless money on parties, carousing, and cars. The rest I have wasted.” If we add to this clothes of all kinds, books and musical artifacts of better or worse fur, I think that much of what my life has been can be described. In order to pay myself such healthy vices, like everyone else, I have had to study and fight hard. And I have been lucky enough to meet and work with people from many countries, who have taught me everything I now know. From a very young age I understood that the medium, and the dress, what and how, is part of that medium, is the message. A person is a person by himself and reaffirms and identifies himself to others by the messages he issues. For what you choose to wear at that particular time. Be it for being from an urban tribe, be it for your partner or, worse still, for work. And this passion for clothes is something that runs in the family. My parents had some clothing stores. And from a very young age I have known the world of choosing a collection, some clothes, some offers and providing them to customers. Helping them to be a little happier. Now, after many years, we are going to unite the wisdom of George Best with the history of my family.
